Clare Sinn Féin Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Justice & the Community

It is the state's responsibility to ensure that every citizen feels safe in their own homes and in their own communities. It is also the right of every citizen to expect that public servants and elected representatives carry out their obligations in an impartial and objective manner.

Pending the establishment of all Ireland policing system Sinn Féin wants to see the full implementation of the Patten recommendations in the Six Counties and reform of the Gardaí in the 26 Counties including the setting up of a Policing Board and an independent Garda Ombudsman.

In terms of Criminal Justice fundamental reform is required north and south. We seek an end to emergency legislation north and south including the continued use of non jury courts.

There must be much more emphasis on all-Ireland co-operation, on human rights, on achieving representativeness of the community as a whole and on accountability.
